hello whoever is reading this.
well from the 22nd to the 26th of July i went out to the Halls Gap Zoo for work experience. The staff group was around 15 people but only 5 Zoo keepers and 3 maintenance people were there per day. The work place was very big and extremely safe as it has locks for every door, safety hazard signs everywhere and the staff did all the jobs that i didn't feel comfortable doing :) On the last couple of days i started hanging out with Megan, she was so awesome!! we would just go around the zoo singing songs and just laughing at everything and anything! she got me to do all the cool stuff like play with dingoes and doing meerkat encounters and playing with monkeys. We came good friends within clicks! She told me a story that one day she was cleaning the Tasmanian devils enclosure and it was about to bite her so she jumped the electric fence and landed face first on the dry ground! she now hates them and always has a joke about it. Some of the best times i had at the zoo would have been kissing the dingoes with Megan, having a food fight with the monkeys and Megan. i covered all the food for the monkeys in yogurt and once they had licked it all off the monkeys would piff it back into your face! The Megan and i just kept throwing yogurt on each other. MOST OF ALL my FAVOURITE! part of the week was feeding the Serval. It is a big cat like a puma. Myself and Megan went into its enclosure to feed him, what you do is throw out a piece of carpet and you throw out its food, with the last piece of meat your suppose to throw it at the back so that you could run in and grab the carpet, but of course we forgot because we were laughing so much hahahaah. We had to think of a plan on how to get the carpet and what we did was drip the blood away from the door and then i had to run in as fast as i can and grab the carpet...I made it...just...
well work experience was the most amazing-est week of my life and i absolutely loved it!
Thank you for everyone who made my time great!
Sounds like you had a great time, Jakki. Singing with the animals and getting chased by big cats-- how thrilling!

ReplyDeleteJakki, sounds like you had a fantastic time at the zoo & you are so lucky to have had the opportunity to work there. I think you are so brave to have entered the cages! I concur with Miss Kelly about your spelling and punctuation. Do you plan on working with animals when you finish school?
